Brain tumour - finding sleep difficult. What position is safe to sleep in?

I've recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour after seeing off bowel and lung cancer over the last 2 years. I'm finding sleep hard again, but this time I'm not even sure what is a safe position to sleep in. The tumour is right front lobe. Should I sleep sat up or on my right / left side. Does it matter? Thanks

  • Hi Chriskel and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to hear about your recent  brain tumour diagnosis. I can understand that this is a difficult time for you. I think it's important for you to be comfortable when you sleep, rather than worry about your sleeping position. You could talk to your hospital specialist or specialist nurse about your sleeping difficulties.

Macmillan has information on managing sleep difficulties that you might find helpful.

Additionally, counselling could help you cope with your recent diagnosis, especially after your lung and bowel cancer treatments.  The Brain Tumour Charity offers free counselling sessions, and you might find it beneficial to join their forum to connect with others going through similar experiences.

I hope you find reading this useful.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina
