My husband is visiting tomorrow and wants to help him shave and feel more like himself is there a safe way of shaving him or a better shaver will can buy to help him get some dignity back

  • Hi there curlyme and thanks for the post

I am so sorry to hear about both your husband and his brother's diagnosis, this must be a difficult time for all the family.

Everyone deals with cancer in different ways and it isn't unusual to experience a range of emotions along the way. It must be tough to see your brother in law not coping with this very well at the moment.

It is good to hear your husband is going to visit him tomorrow and try to make him feel better about himself. As he has a blood cancer he is probably very worried about cutting himself, it is recommended that an electric razor is used that has a safety strip to reduce the risk of nicking the skin.

If the family can let the specialist team involved in your brother in law's care know about how he is at the moment this will help them to get him the most appropriate help and support at this time.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Wishing all your family the best
