Prostrate Cancer - Impacts

Good morning, my Dad has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer which has now gone into his bones.

We know that my Dad's diagnosis is terminal but just want to ensure that we do everything we can whilst we have Dad with us.

He has now starting to have a hearing problem, speech problem and a problem with his mobility in his hands affecting his grip.

Are these symptoms connected to the cancer please or separate that we should see a GP / Nurse about?

Thank you

Debbie

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your dad, this must be a difficult time for all the family.

Symptoms can be caused by many different things. In terms of what symptoms a cancer patient may have depends on where the cancer is located and has spread to. I'm afraid no one here will be able to say whether the changes to your dad's hearing, speech and grip are linked to his cancer or something else.

We would however suggest that you should be letting your dad's doctor know about these changes so they can properly assess him as to what the actual cause may be. Depending on this they can hopefully help manage these and support your dad further.

I would try and speak with both the GP and the hospital specialist nurse or doctor about this.

I hope you know more soon and that your dad can get the best care and treatment he needs at this time.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

All the best to you and your dad

    Naomi
