Stage 1V melanoma

I know I have had melanoma for years but lately last few weeks my breathing is affected and another sign for me not long to go now. I moved to a different area five weeks ago and even my GP doesn't have updated medical records in fact no one does. I have dermatology appointment on 8th October and had to go to doctors and complain about pain I was in to get seen again as I had biopsy two years ago. Neither the doctor or where I'm living has a clue how much pain I'm in and just being left in a bed to look after myself I just don't have the energy anymore. No one to ever talk to where I live and I cry everyday alone with my suffering. I just had to say what I'm experiencing now and if you have any suggestions where I can get actual help from as been totally neglected here now.

  • Welcome to the forum Peter, although I'm so sorry to read what you're going through and how alone you are feeling.

I just wanted to let you know that our nurses don't work at the weekend, but they will be back in the office tomorrow and will get back to you as soon as they can. They are also available by phone if you'd like to speak to them about any of this on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Please be assured that the Cancer Chat community are here for you Peter and will do all they can to support you at this very challenging time.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Peter,

I'm so sorry to hear you are receiving no help & have no one to talk to. Please ring the nurse's helpline at Melanoma Focus. They are melanoma specialist nurses and a great help https://melanomafocus.org/melanoma-helpline/

    Take care,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Hello Peter452 and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and the horrible time that you are having.

It is good that you are now seeing the dermatologist on the 8th of October but as you are struggling with your health it is important that you make your GP aware of the problems that you are having at home.

You say that your doctor has no record of your past diagnosis of melanoma. It would be worth contacting your old GP or the hospital where you were previously seen so you can get your records sent to your GP and dermatologist.

You are very welcome to ring and go through all of this with one of the helpline nurses.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thanks for the reply angie I will try and remember tomorrow to get in touch with hospital which did biopsy but knowing that NHS they will probably want proof of id before giving details even to me but worth a go and how are you coping Angie are your family supporting you okay in this difficult time. I think your so brave that even now you're helping others still and I appreciate your help with me. No one has talked to me for so long I can't remember I feel like I'm socially rejected because of my cancer all I see and hear when I do manage to get out is Tut's from the younger generation and your holding up the cue when fumbing to pay in a local shop with my politically correct Google pay on my phone. I feel like I've been asleep for ten years don't even know how those electric bikes work but keep tripping up on the ones left in middle of pavement. It's nice to have a chuckle at the kids now but don't let them see you or they won't be to happy with you. Hope you're reply as I want to know how your coping and if anyone is caring for you. Keep a smile as my friend always used to say. Peter.

  • Hi Peter,

Thank you for your lovely words - I'm fine & have a lot of support. I've sent you a private message so we can chat. Take care.
