Prostate cancer diagnosis

Currently on active surveillance for my diagnosis, last readings PSA 10.5 3+4 Gleason. Oncologist suggestion is to start treatment, having readpossible side effects, which to me are frightening, of the mind not to have treatment, and see how things pan out, especially after much reading. Thoughts please

  • Hello and thank you for posting

Unfortunately, as nurses, we cannot give a medical opinion on what you should do regarding your prostate cancer treatment.

Side effects of cancer treatment are often discussed by the doctor and can be quite overwhelming to hear. But, all treatment comes with a degree of risk. Even simple over-the-counter medications that we take have side effects, but we choose them for their benefit.

It may be a good idea to post in our 'living with cancer' thread on the forum and hear from those who have taken the treatment they had suggested for you. This said, no two people will experience the same thing, but it may give you more of an idea.

Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
