Bowel Cancer

I’m hoping somebody will be able to help. My dad had a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago, they are pretty certain he has bowel cancer. It’s at the top right hand side of his large intestine and causing a narrowing of his intestine. In the past 2 weeks since the colonoscopy he has deteriorated severely. He has had pain for a couple of months but had still been working etc. he is now signed off work sick and bed ridden. He is in absolute agony in the whole of his stomach, although taking morphine and paracetamol. He’s barely eating and in a really bad place. The hospital have just said there’s no more pain relief they can give him and we have got to wait another week (already been waiting a week and a half) for his results and a plan. I can’t believe that people are left in this much pain and bed ridden and there’s nothing anyone will do? Please help

  • Hi Aimlou and thanks for your post

I am sorry to hear about your dad, this must be such a difficult time for you all.

I suggest you try and speak with your dad's GP and failing that telephone NHS 111 for advice. It sounds like he needs to be assessed just to make sure he isn't in obstruction.

Hope you know more soon, a plan is put in place and your dad can start turning a corner for the better.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
