Appointment with Plastic Surgeon after skin biopsy

Hi,  I have been given an appointment with a Plastic surgeon following a skin biopsy on my leg. What does this mean - do I have cancer?

  • Hey there AnnieNH and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear you are awaiting biopsy results and have received an appointment with a plastic surgeon.

I'm afraid no one here can explain exactly what this means for you as we aren't involved in your care.

I suggest calling the hospital to find out more.

Usually patients are referred to plastics if they are needing surgery to remove something abnormal from the skin. This won't always be for a cancer though and there are other pre cancerous or low grade types of skin cancer that also may need surgically removing.

As I say it is best to speak with your own doctor so you get the full facts about your situation and what the biopsy has shown.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

I hope everything is okay for you.

    Take care

    Naomi
