Basal cell carcinoma Worry

Hello, I have noticed a shiny pink bump pain free under my eye from 2023 and went to the gp twice since then to now. Both time have been told it’s nothing to worry about. However, I’ve have noticed some changes; bigger and tiny blood vessels can be visible. Am not sure what to do - if I should go to the gp again and be disappointed as they are not able to help or give me answers. Or do I go private?

  • I would go to the GP again. I had a tiny place by my nose  that would bleed periodically for no particular reason. A beautician nagged me to get it looked at and my GP said straight away that it was a bcc and referred me to a dermatologist. If you are still concerned go to a private dermatologist for your own peace of mind.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

You can request to see a different GP in the same practice if it is a larger practice. GP's are generally concerned if a skin lesion has undergone some change within the last 4 weeks or so. Taking photos on a smartphone to compare can help. Often skin lesions are not serious, but it makes sense to get any new changes checked out.

We have information on our website about the possible symptoms of skin cancer

Some people do choose to access a private GP service, or a private dermatologist appointment, as there are some delays in dermatology services at the present time in the NHS.

    I hope this helps,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
