How can I find results for my mother recently diagnoised

Hi, hope you can help.  Mother recently diagnosed with Bladder Cancer.  She had a CT scan on the 3rd September and we have not been sent anything regarding the results.  How can I obtain this?  Her operation is on the 2nd October but id like to know the results beforehand.

Thank you for any advice you can provide.

  • Hello Mo55man01 and thanks for your post,

It is difficult to be too precise as I am not involved in your mother's care.

Every potential cancer patient is discussed in a formal meeting called an  MDT (Multi Disciplinary Team) meeting where all the doctors involved in a patients care come to review all the different tests that a person has had. These meetings usually happen once a week.

I am not sure if your mother's doctors are waiting for this meeting to happen where all the results are reviewed by the doctors involved in your mother's care.

After this meeting your mother may be allocated a specialist cancer nurse. If you haven't heard anything in the next few days you may find it helpful to talk to the urologist's secretary.

The secretary will not be able to give your mother any results on the phone but hopefully they will be able to arrange for someone to ring her back before the 2nd of October so she can understand more.

Whoever you speak to at the hospital you will have to get your mother's permission.

We have some information on bladder cancer which you and your mother might find helpful to read.

If you or your mother would like to ring and chat through any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are welcome to call us.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine

  • Thank you so much Catherine.  Really appreciated
