Rectal bleeding

I had quite a lot of rectal bleeding about 3 weeks ago. I was taken to A&E who did a Dre and found nothing and referred me on the 2 week pathway. I had a colonoscopy In December after a positive fecal occult blood test which jusypt found 1 polyp which was removed. Bang on 2 weeks I got a call from the colonoscopy nurse who said that they had reviewed by last colonoscopy and didn’t think another one would be useful but that my GP should do an urgent referral to the GI doctors. That “urgent” referral is not until December! I still get intermittent bleeding. Should I be pushing for an earlier appointment?  I have unresolved diarrhoea daily (over 4 weeks now) and lower abdominal cramping pain along with very smelly wind. Seeing my gp next week.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read about what's been happening.

When you see your GP next week let them know how much your symptoms are affecting you, and do mention your concern about having to wait until December to see a  GI specialist. They will assess you and decide if you need to be seen more urgently.

I hope you know more soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
