Treatment Pazopanib (Votrient) for MRCC to the lungs

Hi, anyone on this medication? What are the benefits or quality of life if any when using this?

I’m stage 4 metastatic renal cel cancer to the lungs, has kidney removed 3.5 years ago and it spread to the lung last year.
had radiotherapy which has not worked, part of my lung has more collapsed, consultant wants to start me on pazopanib tablets. But everything I’ve read into on these seems to have no benefits of quality of life.

Can anyone share any positives of these because they sound like they will do more damage and possibly kill Mr if wicked than the cancer.

 Thanks

  • Hi Pete 83 and thank you for your post.

I'm sorry to read about your situation. This must be an incredibly difficult time for you and I appreciate you wanting to explore all possible options.

Pazopanib is a targeted cancer drug that works by blocking certain proteins, known as tyrosine kinases, from signalling cancer cells to grow.

Many people taking pazopanib have shared very positive comments.

As with all medications, it can have potential side effects, but most can be managed. Whilst on Pazopanib you would be closely monitored by your hospital specialist. If you are concerned about side effects then you might be able to take a break from treatment or stop it completely.

Maybe you could speak to your hospital specialist or nurse specialist (CNS) about your concerns and how you would be monitored if you were to start on pazopanib.

You could also post on our  'Living with Cancer'  page to potentially receive more responses from people undergoing this treatment.

I hope you find this information helpful in guiding your decision-making process.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Tina

  • Hi Tina,

Thank you for the reply, yes I will be speaking to my consultant about this in depth in the next month, I’m just looking for those that have or are taking this drug and how it effects them.

I know everyone will be different and I have read up on how the drug works etc, just want some first hand views.

again, thank you for the response.
