Borderline malignancy tumor ovarian

I was recently diagnosed with stage 3A2 borderline malignancy ovarian tumor. With it being stage 3 its spread to my tummy. They would like to do a full hysterectomy.

Do we class it as cancer or not? As ive had one doctor saying its not cancer but its not not cancer and another saying advanced ovarian cancer?

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I think you may need some clarification from your doctor. There is ovarian cancer and there are borderline ovarian tumours. Both of these have the same staging system used for them, as in 3A2 for example. There isn't really a 'borderline malignancy ovarian tumour' as you have described. Borderline tumours have abnormal cells but are not cancer and are often treated with surgery. We have information on our website

We have another section about ovarian cancer

I hope this helps, and that you get to find out more from your doctor.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Vanda
