Legs and ankles following breast cancer treatment

Hi since i had chemo and radiotherapy my legs are weak and swollen and i am told i have venus insufficiency because legs are red.  I have been given compression garments and told to come back 6 months later but i can’t get them in.  i am overweight and on Letrosoll.  i want to lose weight but finding it difficult and walking getting more uncomfortable.  Is this a known side effect ?  Any advice please

    Yes, the after effects of cancer treatment and hormone therapy can increase the chance of swelling. Poor circulation can cause leg swelling too. Elevating your legs up on a stool for short periods can help. If you are struggling with the compression garments, then do get back to that service and ask them for help about this.

    It can be difficult to lose weight, so do ask your GP if there is any help available with this. The NHS has website tips and help with losing weight

    You could also ask your GP for a physiotherapy referral, as they might be able to suggest home exercises that you can do indoors and there are chair exercises too. The NHS has sitting exercises and also chair based exercise
