Sarcomatoid carcinoma

My Husband has been diagnosed with Sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung. It is T4 N2 M0. He will have surgery on Wed to hopefully remove his whole left lung. We have been told that it has invaded the wall of his heart and if when they go in on Wed they find it is attached to the muscle of his heart they will withdraw and that will be it.

I know what we are facing if they cannot operate, my question is if they can, reading about this cancer it is frightening, do we realistically have any hope of beating this?

Thank you

Cath

  • Hello Cath,

I can appreciate that this is a difficult time for you all right now.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on this in depth for you. If surgery is not possible, then other treatments may be considered. If the tumour is large, then it may be that treatments used would be with the aim of controlling the cancer, (rather than a cure), for as long as possible. I am sorry if this is hard to read. Your husband's specialist should be able to explain more about his situation and treatment plan.

I am sorry that we cannot be of more specific help on this occasion.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
