Stage 4 oesophageal adenocarcinoma

I would like to know is it possible for  oesophagitis to develop into stage 4 adenocarcinoma in 6 months?

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

Oesphagtitis is not cancer, it is caused by inflammation of the lining of the oesophagus.

I hope that helps to know.

    Take care

    Caroline

  • Hello Caroline

I know that oesphagtitis is oesphageal inflammation, but that was not my question. Can oesphagtitis develop into stage 4 oesophageal adenocarcinoma in 6 months?

  • Hello there and thanks for getting back in touch

I am sorry we misunderstood your question.

Oesophagitis and any type of inflammation in the oesophagus over time may lead to abnormal cells developing which in turn could develop into cancer. The time that this takes can vary from person to person as everyone and each cancer is different. Some cancer cells grow and spread very slowly and others much quicker often referred to as high grade. Whilst most won't, for some people this can happen in a very short period of time.

It is often difficult for anyone to say how long a cancer has been present but do ask the specialist team involved for their thoughts on this situation.

I hope there is a plan of action for treatment moving forward and that everything goes well.
