Ovarian cancer stage 2

My sister was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with stage 2 ovarian cancer. I'm worried sick. She went to A&E with awful abdominal pain, but has Ulcerative Colitis a number of years so thought it was that. But they found a 13cm fluid-filled mass in her ovary. They drained the fluid off with keyhole surgery  and now she has been told its stage 2 ovarian cancer. Surgery to happen in 2 days. There's been 6 weeks between the operations, my question is, how likely is the cancer to have spread and become stage 3 or 4 by now?

  • Hello moonbeam2 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your sister, this must be an anxious time for all the family.

Every cancer has a different rate of growth. However most patients do have to wait a number of weeks whilst undergoing tests or surgery before more treatment and in most cases the cancer will not grow significantly or change stages in this time.

I hope the surgery goes well and that your sister is okay.
