Mouth ulcers

Good evening, my sister in law has had her first chemo and now has mouth ulcers, she has medication but I am wondering if this will reoccur following each session

  • Hi, I suffered from mouth ulcers through all of my chemo. I was given a special mouthwash which initially helped but I ended up getting a getting a concentrated oral rinse gel called Gelclair from my district nurse for my last four cycles as mine seemed to become more and more and really quite nasty.
when I first got them in my first six cycles of chemo I ate the yolk of soft boiled eggs. The yolk is a natural remedy and helps them heal them quickly.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

It is difficult to predict the degree of side effects that someone will experience from treatments, as this can vary for them throughout the treatment plan.

We do have information on our website about mouth problems and treatments.

Using soluble paracetamol can help, and there products such as Gelclair that can help ease the discomfort.  Her hospital team can advise her, and can sometimes prescribe different medications to help with this.

    I hope this helps,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Vanda
