Can't help worry

I had onocytic carcinoma in my right thyroid in October 2023 , and since April 2024 I had a swelling on my right side I've had a scan in July 2024 and it's swollen lymph node around 2cm I don't have to take medication or have  no follow up booked because I was told that by removing my right thyroid they removed the cancer but I'm still worried about the lymph node  I know I'm probably over thinking everything and I should be really thankful that they only had to remove my right side but I'm scared and I can't seem to talk to anyone because all I get is it's a good cancer to have so your OK

  • Hi there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you needed surgery for onocytic carcinoma and appreciate how this swelling is concerning you.

Most people after being diagnosed with a cancer will worry about it coming back even after it has been successfully treated. It is reassuring that you have had a scan that has confirmed it is a swollen lymph node. If there had been any concerning features the doctor would be arranging further tests.

Try not to worry but if you are struggling do speak with your GP about this, or indeed if you notice the swelling increasing in size or any other symptoms develop.

Maggie's has a section of information about fear of cancer returning you may find useful to look at.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best

    Naomi
