PICC line in but no appointments

Hello all, thank you for being there for us.  I’ve received my full diagnosis now, and the plan is to start with a course of chemotherapy. 8 rounds delivered fortnightly.  My PICC line was put in 3 weeks ago, which I thought was a sign of immanent treatment.  I did get a phone call to say that I still don’t have a slot, but I’m on the waiting list.  While it’s good that they are keeping us informed, I wonder how the system works behind the scenes, so to speak.  I’m keeping anxiety at bay as it will happen, but if you have any tips?  Thank you

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I'm afraid that I don't think anyone here will know for sure why your treatment is being delayed. It could be because many people are waiting to have treatment, with not enough staff or room in the chemo unit. You could ask and they may be able to tell you.

However, waiting can take its toll so I can appreciate any concerns you have. Trying to keep your mind off this by keeping busy, watching TV, etc might help. Talking with those nearest to you could help too.

You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thank you very much for this.  I do realise the stress on the system, and that things take their time. I’ll take your advice.  It’s hard to not think about it, but I see fRon so many posts thst this is one lesson that I have to learn.
