CMML

Currently in the watch and wait stage, once in treatment stage is it possible to live a normal life if treatment works or is my life cut short

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry you've been diagnosed with CMML (chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia) and can appreciate you wanting to know more about what this means for you.

Many people with CMML do not need treatment straightaway as the condition can develop slowly. You will have regular check ups including blood tests. This is watchful waiting and I see that you are under this approach.

If treatment is needed later and it works well, many people  can continue to live a relatively normal life and may live for years.

But the best person to discuss this with is your specialist team as they are familiar with all your medical details. If you have a specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

You can read more about CMML on our website. Leukaemia Care has some further information that might be helpful.

I hope this is of some use. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
