Eye problems after radiotherapy on nose (Ballioma).

I had radiotherapy ... 6 weeks ... on the right side of my nose at the base of the nostril.. This caught my eyes but was worst on the right eye.

My right eye is constantly watering.

I lost me eye lashes and tear duct and was told I needed an Ectropion Repair.  Has anyone experienced this and does it work?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm sorry to read what you are going through. It sounds incredibly tough dealing with all of this after your radiotherapy treatment.

The constant watering of your eye is likely due to the ectropion which is when the lower eyelid turns outwards. This can happen after radiotherapy if it affects the muscles and skin around your eye.

Losing eyelashes and damage to the tear duct can make things worse since the eye loses some of it's natural protection and moisture control.

Many people have been treated successfully with ectropion surgery. The procedure tightens and repositions the eyelid so it sits correctly against the eye again. This usually helps reduce the watering and discomfort. However, recovery times and results can vary from person to person. Some people do notice a good improvement, while others might need additional treatments.

Your specialist should be able to tell you what to expect based on your specific situation.
