Breast lump

Hello I've just been to the gp because I could feel a lump in my left breast.  She said it feels like a cyst or fibrodema and isn't that concerned but because its soft and mobile however because of my family history I need to go to the breast clinic for an ultrasound.   I had a mammogram only 6 months ago and it was clear.  i would of thought the cyst would been picked up on  the x-ray.  I was here on this forum last year and now back with more stress and anxiety.  This forum definitely helped me though with my anxiety.

  • Hello Bear3 and thank you for posting

I am sorry to learn that you have been referred to the breast clinic for a lump, I can appreciate this is an anxious time for you.

It is important to know that most breast lumps are noncancerous (benign). Breast cysts are very common and can develop quickly anywhere in the breast and they can change during the menstrual cycle.

It is a difficult and stressful time waiting for tests and test results and people can often feel they are not in control. There is no right or wrong way to be during this time.  Easier said than done but try not to overthink things.  For some people it can be helpful to distract themselves by carrying on with daily activities such as working for others it can be difficult to concentrate.

I hope you can get some answers soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma
