Node biopsy waiting results after mastectomy

Hello, Please can someone advise my mum had a left mastectomy she had biopsies taken on her sentinel nodes and unfortunately they said it would be a two week wait which then has turned into three now that appointment was cancelled due to further testing and now an appointment has been made for mid September with no clarification why or results this would then be 42 days after the operation. Is this correct why would this be? It's putting a massive strain on her mentally.

Please can you advise why this may of been or who she could contact or whether she can request the results.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry your mum hasn't had her biopsy results yet and can understand that waiting and not knowing is very stressful.

Usually, you would expect biopsy results within 2-4 weeks, however, unfortunately, we are hearing of people having to wait longer because of the pressures of the NHS.

It might be worth your mum calling the consultant's secretary to see if they can give you more of an idea of when she will get the results. She could also contact the breast nurse specialist who perhaps can look into this for her. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to her.

I hope you both know more soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
