Uterine polyps

Hi I was diagnosed with polyps at transvaginal ultrasound and was sent for hystrescopy  but they said there were no polyps and no biopsy was done the doctor said it looked normal although I still have all the symptoms I had that started this journey I’m still loosing weight still have spotting after a major bleed this all following a 14 year absence of periods is this normal can polyps just disappear in a week I’m a bit lost really my go says she doesn’t know and told me to contact the hospital where I had the procedures but no one is getting back to me or telling me anything  so was wondering if you have any advice about what I can do or what my next steps should be thanks for your time x

  • Hello, and thanks for posting,

As cancer information nurses we cannot provide a medical opinion, or explain why the hysteroscopy was different from the transvaginal ultrasound. Unfortunately, this is something only your team at the hospital can explain.

According to some research I have found very small polyps might resolve on their own and not need treatment, but this seems to take between 2-3 months.

Hopefully, you will hear back from the gynaecological team who can give you more of an explanation.

If you find it difficult to get hold of someone it may be worth contacting your local Patient and Liaison Advice ( PALS). They offer confidential advice and support to patients and their families. They may be able to look into this on your behalf. You can search for your local PALS on the NHS website.

I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma
