Infection but don’t know cause of it it where it is

My dad was admitted to hospital on Tuesday with a fever and high temperature , since then he has had blood tests which all came back okay. The doctor said there is an infection in the body but they don’t know where it is or what caused it. He is taking chemo tablets at the moment. Is this something to be worried about? His temperature is 36/37 still and his stomach is not able to keep down the food

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about what your dad is going through and I appreciate that this is a worrying time right now.

Chemotherapy can weaken the immune system making it easier for infections to develop, and it can be harder for the body to fight them off. Even when blood tests come back okay, sometimes infections don't show up right away, or it may take time to pinpoint where it's coming from. It sounds like your dad's doctors are trying to establish the cause and it's good that he is being monitored in hospital.

His stomach problems like not being able to keep food down could be related to his infection or chemotherapy or a combination of both.Hopefully once your dad responds to his treatment and his temperature comes down he should feel better soon.
