Hair growth after treatment.

Hello, it's been just over a year since I stopped treatment. My hair and beard grew back pretty quick but then went a bit patchy, especially on the beard. Some months the beard will be alot less patchy but then gets worse again. Is this common after a year?

Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for your post

After cancer treatment hair regrowth can vary in people. Some people's hair will grow back after a few months and for some it may never fully return to normal, and patchiness particularly in the beard isn't unusual.

As you are noticing that the patchiness keeps coming and going it might be a good idea to speak to your GP or specialist team about this. They can check for any underlying issues and will advise you further.

Your GP may consider referring you to a specialist in hair loss.  This could be a dermatologist (doctor who specialises in skin problems) or you can see a Trichologist (people who specialise in hair loss problems but are not medically trained) privately.  You can find out more information about this on the Institute of Trichologists website.

I hope this has been of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
