Melanoma Scar

Hello there.  Three years ago I had an insitu Melanoma removed from the top of my right arm. I am very freckly, got sun burned a lot when I was a child (I'm 56).  Since the Melanoma was removed, I have covered myself in sun creams and covered up as much as possible whenever I've been out in the sun.  Just recently however, I have noticed a change in the scar on my arm where the melanoma was removed from.  It is very pink, the texture of it feels different and sporadically, I feel a 'sensation' in that area.  I would be grateful if you could advise if you think any of these changes should be of concern to me please.  Many thanks in advance.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Sensations and colour changes in sensitive scar areas can be related to changes to your external temperature and increased UV light, so more likely to happen in summer, or when away on holiday. Try and keep it covered with clothing that doesn't let light through, if that's feasible, or apply SPF 50 sunblock to the area. It should settle.

If any previous skin area does change (usually over a 4 to 6 week period), in its size (bigger) or shape (irregular), colour of it becomes darker, or becomes oozy, bleeds, or is crusty, then seek medical advice.

You could always take a phone photo of it for now to have as a current reference.

    I hope that this helps,
