Pulmonary Embolism

Just looking for a bit of advice if anyone has been in a similar situation.

Mum has been diagnosed with lung cancer along with secondary liver and bone mets.

Following another episode of difficulty breathing has been admitted to hospital, where they suspect she may have a pulmonary embolism and she'll get a CT scan tomorrow to investigate further.

she already is on blood thinners and along with COPD has heart arrhythmia. If PE is diagnosed how much of a complication would this been.

cancer was diagnosed at the end of June and  is graded T4 N3 M1c and as yet she hasn't had an appointment with an oncology consultant.

feeling really worried just now.

  • Hello Mariomo and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your mum's situation, this must be a difficult time for all the family.

Every patients situation is different and so whilst I can understand you wanting to hear other people's experiences, what may happen for one person may look different to someone else's.

It is only the team looking after your mum who can say how her having a Pulmonary Embolism (PE) may effect things for her. If a PE is diagnosed then the priority will be to manage this.

At the moment it doesn't sound like she has seen the oncologist she will be under, do ask the doctor looking after her when this may happen. The oncologist will be able to give more information about the situation and the plan moving forward in terms of treatment.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Wishing your mum all the best,

    Take care

    Naomi
