Letrozole and Cognitive Impairment

I am receiving Letrozole for breast cancer. One of the side effects looks like cognitive impairment, being lack of concentration, reduced capability around multi tasking, brain fog, headaches. Can this come about quiet late, in the 5 year treatment plan.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

It's not impossible for people to experience cognitive issues such as brain fog, difficulty concentrating, and headaches to appear later on in their treatment, sometimes even after several years

People vary in the side effects they may experience with their cancer treatment. We have some tips on our website about coping with  cognitive changes which you may find helpful, The charity Macmillan Cancer Support also has some tips on how to manage this condition.

Doctors now think that these problems could be due to a variety of reasons, including the different cancer treatments and the cancer itself.

If you are experiencing these side effects we would suggest that you discuss this with your specialist team for further advice. If you have a breast specialist nurse involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this reply has been of some help. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
