MRI Liver Scan After TURBT

Hello

My husband had a TURBT 2 weeks ago. He was told after the cystoscopy that the cancer was small 10mm. We were shocked to get a phone call saying that the urologist had requested a MRI scan, I posted this previously and was reassured by your reply. However the letter for the appointment came through today and it is for a liver MRI scan, he is quite laid back about this, I am really worried. Is it normal to have a liver scan after a diagnosis and op for bladder cancer. His surgeon told him that the op had gone well.

He has put his trust totally in his urologist, I am struggling with not being in control.

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello and thank you for your further post

As I mentioned previously after a TURBT procedure it's not unusual for a urologist to order additional tests.  This is to establish the extent of the cancer, and if it has spread anywhere else in the body, including the liver.  The results of the scan will determine if your husband needs to have any further treatment.

It’s understandable to feel the way you do but remember that many tests are precautionary. If anything of concern was found the doctors would address it promptly.

I hope this reply helps a little. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
