  • Dear Steve141,

I am sorry to learn of your situation, it can be a worrying and stressful time waiting for tests and test results and for treatment to start.

I can appreciate there is a lot of uncertainty that can be difficult to come to terms with. Many factors affect a person's outcome such as the stage of the cancer (its size and how far it has spread) the grade (how abnormal the cells look) how well a person responds to treatment and how fit a person is whether or not they have other health conditions.

Once the doctors have all the information they need from the scans and biopsies, this will help them to work out the treatment plan. The treatment aims to get rid of the cancer and to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

Generally, prostate cancer is very treatable, and many men do very well with treatment. The best person to discuss this with would be your specialist as they know your situation.

I don't know if you have seen our information about prostate cancer on our website. You may also find it helpful to look at Prostate Cancer UK's website.

You may also find it helpful to post on the 'living with cancer' thread where more people will see your post and hopefully will share their experience.

I hope this helps a little. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma
