Hi

I had a double mastectomy on 17th July. The last 2 days I've had a red mark, hot, and pain. I was told to go to A&E for an IV. I got an IV into the arm and sent home with tablets. Bloods were taken and no sign of infection. Do you think I need to be on an antibiotic IV drip? The area has not got bigger in the 2 days. I won't see my surgeon till Wed so it's worrying.

    I am sorry to hear about what has happened.

    I am afraid that we cannot advise you about the antibiotics, but it looks like you are seeing the surgeon tomorrow so please wait and ask them about it.

    I do think that the hospital would have kept you on IV antibiotics if it was necessary. However, if your temperature gets high (about 37.8 and higher) and/or you feel unwell before you see the doctor tomorrow then do let NHS 111 know.
