Pet scan

Had a pet scan shows activity in both lungs after nodules had grown over 6 months from last CT.

They say cancer can they tell

  • Hello Cazzy and thanks for your post,

The doctors can get a good indication from the Pet scan. that a cancer may be present but to get a definitive diagnosis and to know what type of cancer and how it is treated they will have to try and do a biopsy. The doctors will be comparing the size of the nodule last time with the nodule this time.

The NHS have produced some information on lung nodules which you might find helpful to read.

Depending on where the nodule is in the lung will determine the type of biopsy that they may consider doing.

We have a list of different tests they may consider doing to help try and diagnose lung cancer

I can understand that it is unsettling waiting for results but it is important that the doctors get all the information together to work out what the next steps are.

Any potential cancer will be discussed in a large formal meeting where all the doctors involved in your care will look at all the different scans and biopsies and discuss what happens next.

If you would like to discuss any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then do get back to us or give us a ring. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the best,

    Catherine
