Cancer

I have mysterious lumps on my neck and they aren't going away. I went to the hospital to get an ultrasound but they are still here as they gave no kind of medication to help. They've been here for 2-3 years now and I feel I've been misdiagnosed. What can I do?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I presume the ultrasound you had showed no worrying features about the lumps otherwise you would have had more tests.

Neck lumps can be raised for various reasons, such as a local skin infection, or a blocked or inflamed lymph gland (lymph node). Sometimes lumps come up in response to a recent bacterial or viral infection elsewhere in the body even when a person feels well. It can sometimes take a long time for them to go down and sometimes they may never go back to their original size, and this might be now part of your normal anatomy.

As you are still worried about the lumps, the best thing to do is to speak to your GP about them.  I imagine they would have got a summary letter from the hospital with your ultrasound results. They should be able to advise you if anything else needs to be done.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
