Bladder Tumour (TURBT)

Hello, on 11th July I was told I had multiple Tumours on my bladder and would need a TURBT procedure to remove them in 2 to 4 weeks. I spoke to a Urology nurse this week and am now been told that this will probably be another month until the procedure is done! I have been told by doctor he is 90% sure this is cancer and the procedure will determine the stage this is at. I am 41 and been told this is rare in someone my age and am anxiously waiting to get this done and worry the delay will cause more harm and cause the Tumours to develop more as I don't no how long they have been there.

  • Hi Jimmy 83, and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn about your situation, I can understand this is a worrying and anxious time for you.

Unfortunately in some situations getting a diagnosis of cancer can take some time. People can feel they are having to wait too long and will worry that the cancer may spread during this time. We know that most cancers grow slowly and having to wait a few weeks for a test or treatment is unlikely to affect how well the treatment will work.

You may have seen this already, but we do have information about cancer waiting times on our website that have been set.

I don't know if it is possible, but it might be worth having a chat with the urology nurse (CNS) again about your concerns, as they know your situation.

Living with this uncertainty is difficult. I hope you have the support at this time. Please feel free to contact us if you need more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9 am till 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

    Take care all the best,

    Jemma
