Profuse sweating whilst taking tamoxifen

Since taking Tamoxifen the hot flushes that had receeded due to menopause have come back to haunt me. The overwhelming sweat and the feelings of anxiety over what to wear and about going out and people seeing the absolute melt down is horrible. Is there another tablet I can take for hormone therapy?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you are experiencing hot flushes.

As you know hormone treatments such as tamoxifen can cause menopausal symptoms (hot flushes) and people vary in how much they are affected by them. You can read more about how this can be managed here

You can also contact your breast care team for advice on your symptoms, or possibly changing medications. You can leave a message for your breast care nurse, or with the consultant's secretary and hopefully someone will get back to you. If needed, your GP can also prescribe you medication to help manage the hot flushes.

We have information here about the different types of hormone therapy

The organisation Breast Cancer Now has an online patient Forum where people come together and share their experience of going through similar things. You can join the Forum by clicking here

    I hope this helps,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,
