Breast Cancer

I found  a hard lump on my breast up high enough and does not move. I am awaiting on an appointment for the breast clinic.  My bloods have been elevated for over 12 months.  The lump is quite large. I have myself dead and buried.  Do you think I have left it to late ??

  • Hi Maria, and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you have found a breast lump and are waiting to be seen at the hospital. This must be a difficult time.

I was unsure what you meant by your blood tests being elevated and it is important to know that this does not mean this is caused by cancer.

Whilst this is a worrying time for you, it does not mean you have breast cancer (the majority of lumps turn out to be noncancerous) or if you do, that it has been left too late. The main thing is that you are being safe and getting the lump checked.

Waiting for tests and results is hard and a lot of people feel they do not have any control over what is happening to them. There is no right or wrong way to deal with this, but it is easy to overthink things and think the worst. Some people can find it helpful to distract themselves by carrying on with their usual activities as much as possible.

I hope you do not have to wait too long before your appointment. Please feel free to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best,

    Jemma

  • Please don't panic Maria, mine felt big and I scared myself witless but it was early stage. I don't think there's one of us who doesn't let our minds go to a dark place, I convinced myself I had cancer all over my body, brain, lungs, you name it. Stress will give you aches and pains everywhere ! The wait is terrible but once you've been seen everything should start moving quickly. Could be a cyst or anything. Even if it is something concerning, they can do so many things to help us now. It's never too late ! Best of luck Maria x
