Colposcopy

Yesterday I had my Colposcopy appointment and whilst I was there the nurse explained the possibility of me being sent away for a yearly smear as I had borderline changed following my smear test. But whilst she did the colposcopy she said that she found more abnormal cells then previously indicated. She did the punch biopsy there and then, and now I’m even more worried then before.
I am petrified at the possibility of having cervical cancer… is this still a possibility? Websites aren’t really giving me a yes or no answer that I feel I need.
what happens from here…. I’m only 24, 25 in October and I’m just scared to death that something is going to come back from the biopsy.

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I can appreciate the worry you have following your colposcopy appointment. However, having a biopsy done does not mean you will necessarily be diagnosed with cancer, it would be unlikely that you would be. You may have some more abnormal cells.

Looking online will not tell you what your result is but could cause you unnecessary worry and distress. So, please don't look online, try and keep your mind off this by keeping busy, if you can.

You are also welcome to give us a call to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
