Cabozantinib

Hi

New to forum.

Need a question answered.

Is Cabozantinib a Chemotherapy Treatment of a Immunology treatment?

I am trying to sort out Travel Insurance, but there is no option for Targeted Therapy, which I always understood Cabozant was?

Don't want to put wrong answer in, (let's be honest Insurance companies will use any excuse not to pay out)!

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Cabozantinib is a type of chemotherapy drug in it's overall drug action on cancer cells, but does not work exactly the same way as most chemotherapy drugs. That is why it is called a Targeted Therapy as it is called a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. So, it isn't a chemotherapy drug, nor is it a immunotherapy drug.

There is a good explanation of it on this drugs website

I think to be sure, you would need to speak to the medical advisor at the travel insurance company, to make sure the correct details would be recorded. To be honest, they need to reclassify their drug listings.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
