Metastatic breast cancer

I have just been told I have mastatic cancer after having major surgery on my spine and neck had lesions when will chemo and radiotherapy start and how long will I have to have it for?

  • Hello Rachel52 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your situation and imagine this is a difficult time for you.

Unfortunately without being directly involved in your care we cannot say when you will start your treatment or how many sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy you will be given.

Chemotherapy isn't usually started until all wounds have healed from the surgery and you are considered fit for treatment. In terms of chemotherapy there are different drugs depending on the type of breast cancer and this will determine how frequently and how many cycles of treatment you will need.

We have some general information about breast cancer treatment on our website, so do take a look.

Do speak with your specialist doctor or breast care nurse who should be able to go through all of this with you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
