Pretty poorly

Exactly 4 weeks after groin dissection, incision healed completely along with drainage hole. Leg started to feel heavy, uncomfortable and I could feel a lump at the crease of the groin. Took a fit of shivering, temperature , great discomfort at the groin. Feeling of fluid gathering in lower pelvic area. Difficulty getting comfortable to sleep 4 days on, still tired and sleepy, still uncomfortable sitting on loo, tummy looks fatter on one side.  Tested for covid, negative. Wat do you think??

  • Hello Grannyrose and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your situation and the symptoms you are experiencing. I'm afraid we can't say what the matter is but it sounds like you need to be checked out by a doctor to make sure you don't have an infection that needs treating.

Unfortunately with the type of surgery you had there is a risk of lymphoedema (swelling in an area where the lymph nodes have been removed or are damaged). This may also be contributing to the swelling but this shouldn't make you feel poorly or have a fever, where as an infection often does.

Please call your GP surgery or hospital team today and failing that NHS 111 for advice.

I hope you get some answers and start feeling better soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
