Breast Cancer

On Wed July 17th I had a lumpectomy, after being diagnosed in Jan 24, I have had other problems and it’s delayed the operation, I am also on Letrozole, I was told that I would have a lumpectomy and two lymph node biopsies, I have a wide cut across my breast but nothing under my arm, is it possible to remove lymph nodes from my wound site, nothing under my arm.

i am a little confused by this, as the surgeon said I would have a cut under my arm, tomorrow I will phone and ask, they didn’t say anything when I got discharged.

  • Yes it is possible but I would phone up and ask just to check if this is what they did. Good luck x

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

There are various areas across the breast tissue and the underarm area where lymph nodes are located.

Yes, if you had biopsies taken from under the arm, you would have a wound or puncture site there. It is possible to sample a lymph node nearest to the breast tumour, so this may have occurred during the surgery. Unfortunately, I can't say for sure, and the hospital team would be able to explain to you what they actually did during your surgery.

    I hope this helps,
