Is prostate cancer in the prostatic fosse considered metastic?

I’ve been living with bladder cancer for over 25 years, with my most recent  recurrence starting two years ago. Unlike previous recurrences which have been in the bladder, the cancer has now moved to the prostatic fosse. Following my recent tur the biopsies are now also showing adenocarcinoma of the prostrate Gleason 3+3 =6. I’m waiting on further investigation but I wanted to know if adenocarcinoma of the prostrate is considered metastic if found in the prostatic fosse?

thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

Being diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the prostate does not mean you have necessarily got metastasis. If it is found that the cancer has spread to the prostate fossa, also referred to as the prostate bed, it may mean it is locally advanced but I am afraid I am not sure about this.

It looks like you are having further investigations done, so until they are done and the results are known will you have more information about the stage of your cancer.

Waiting for tests and investigations to be done is never easy so I hope you have some support and more information soon.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Thanks Caroline, I chased up the consultant’s secretary who has  just called back with an appointment to see the consultant tomorrow am. I will hopefully get a bit more information and better understand what needs to happen and timings. I’ll feel a lot happier once I get a proper diagnosis and able to decide on next steps

thank you for your prompt response
