Roulaux in blood

Hi, I have been asked to go for a myloma blood screen as after other blood tests it showed I have Roulaux in my blood.  I also have high creatinine and high alt and have developed a strange rash on both legs with Dr and Dermatology don't know what's causing it.  My question is - does everyone who is diagnosed with Myloma have the Roulaux in their blood?

  • Hi Pepsimum and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to learn of your situation,

The Rouleaux formation is known as a stacking of cells seen on a blood test. I cannot say if all patients with myeloma have this, but it is a characteristic of the disease.  It can also be caused by other conditions such as acute or chronic infections, or connective tissue disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

I appreciate it is a difficult and stressful time waiting for results. Your doctor will be able to clarify things more for you once they have all the results. I hope you do not have to wait too long to find out the cause of your symptoms

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma

  • Thank you.x

Can any one confirm exactly what bloods will need to be taken for the Myloma screen at the GP?  The reason I ask is that my appointment is tomorrow at GP but because of this Microsoft outage, I rang to ask if my appointment was still going ahead and the receptionist said that if I new exactly what bloods I needed doing then it would still be OK to come.

  • Good evening Pepsimum

Unfortunately our nurse team is now out of the office and won't be able to answer your question about blood tests until next week when they are back in the office.

I do hope that you're able to get the tests required sorted.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I'm afraid we can't tell you exactly what blood tests you will need as this is usually decided by your doctor.

However, this information on Macmillan Cancer Supports website discusses the blood tests needed to say for sure whether someone has myeloma or not.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
