New referral

Hi

I have been referred to breast clinic (3rd time in 5 years) as i have found a breast lump on my right breast. I try and feel the lump, i can only describe it as oval and when i try and touch it it does move from under my fingers. I do have lumpy breasts any way but this feels as if there is a few lumps near each other. I am so so scared, i have two little kids and i really dont want to leave them with out a mum. I am 34 years old.
I only saw the gp on tuesday and i have a appointment in breast clinic on monday (less than a week wait) which has made me even more worried

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry that you are worried about a breast lump and the stress it is causing you.

Most breast lumps are benign but they have to be checked out just to be sure.

As you've been to the breast clinic before you probably know what the process is. But usually you will see a breast specialist or specialist nurse who will examine you. They will decide whether you need to have a mammogram and possibly an ultrasound or both. Sometimes a needle biopsy is suggested if the scan shows changes in the breast that the doctors are not sure about. This does not mean that anything is particularly wrong but the biopsy will usually confirm what it is. The majority of women who are referred to the breast clinic do not have breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Now has information on what what to expect when you’ve been referred to a breast clinic.

I hope everything turns out to be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
