worried about skin cancer

I have a spot between my eyebrows, it’s small and red and not puss filled. I first had it 2 years ago, when I was a regular sunbed user, and it lasted 4 months. I initially picked it off and it left a scar. The spot has came back in the exact same place and will not budge. I have visited my GP and they told me that it shows no worrying characteristics and not to worry. However, I have noticed a slight burning from time to time and sometimes an itchyness. I am worrying with the anxiety that it is cancer and has been overlooked. I am recently post partum and suffer with a lot of anxiety, I am trying to see if there has been any cancer cases similar, I’m not sure if maybe my anxiety is creating a situation out of nothing.

  • Hi Snowy3 and thank you for posting,

I am sorry to learn you have something that is causing you anxiety and concern that you may have skin cancer.

As cancer information nurses we cannot diagnose you or provide a medical opinion. Only a doctor who can assess you can say what an abnormal spot might be and whether or not further tests are needed.  GPs do have guidelines on what characteristics to look for.

However, if you are concerned then do go back to your GP and let them know what your concerns are. Perhaps asking them what they think the spot might be if they do not think it is cancer. It is also worth mentioning to them how anxious you are especially as you have recently had a baby as they may be able to help you to manage this.

Anxiety UK and Mind provide information and support for anxiety which you may also find helpful to contact.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care, all the best

    Jemma
