CML

I ve been diagnosed with Leukaemia but I don’t understand why I have to wait 6 months to see the haematologist again

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Chronic myeloid leukaemia ( CML) usually develops very slowly and often doesn't need treating straight away which is why you may not need to see your haematologist for six months.

There are different phases of CML and treatment can vary from monitoring ( or watch and wait) with regular blood tests and the assessment of symptoms in slow growing and stable disease to receiving targeted drugs in more active disease. You can read more about CML and how it may be monitored or treated.

Your haematology team are better placed to clarify your situation as they are familiar with all your medical details. If you have a specialist nurse (CNS) involved in your care then perhaps they can provide you with further information. You often have to call and leave them a message and they will get back to you.

I hope this helps. Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
