Stage IV mbc brain mets

Hi I'm new to the forum I've recently been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer to my brain after we thought that I was all clear. It's been an awful shock to the system going from thinking I'm cancer free to suddenly stage 4. I've had targeted radiotherapy and I'm reducing my steroids and symptoms are pretty much gone now. I have a 3 year old daughter and am absolutely petrified of leaving her when she's young I just can't. What's the longest you've known people with my condition to live for? I know everyone is different and noone can put a time on it but could I potentially see her 30th birthday or is that way too ambitious? Thanks

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I can appreciate you want to know more about your outlook especially as you have a young daughter.

I think it is fair to say that it is not possible to tell anyone exactly how long they have to live. However, your own medical team and specialist cancer nurse will give you the best idea of what it could be. This is because they know you and your cancer, the effects treatment has had on your cancer, and will have cared for many people in a similar situation.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
