basal cell carcinoma local flap surgery

Hi I had basal cell carcinoma local flap surgery a few days ago and the bruises/swelling are coming out quite bad. The area was in the crease of my nose and was quite a deep removal. I am taking paracetamol for the pain but doesn't really help. Is there anything else I can take t ease the pain. My stiches  will come out on 22nd July. Also I had a lot of bleeding over the weekend that has stopped, can i change my dressing as it is covered with blood?

Many thanks Susie09

  • Hello Susie09 and thanks for the post

I am sorry to hear about your recent surgery.

As I am sure you are aware it isn't unusual to experience some pain and bleeding after this type of procedure but it should start to settle down soon. If you are able to take ibuprofen you could try that as well as the paracetamol, however if the pain doesn't settle or worsens let the hospital or your GP know so they can assess you.

If you have a new dressing and you gently remove the old one to replace it without touching the affected area at all, this should be okay.

As I say if you have further concerns and things aren't moving in the right direction let the hospital team know.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes
