Palpitations

I am 4 weeks post chemotherapy and I have tachycardia, my resting heart rate before chemo used to be between 60-70bpm. Now it’s anywhere from 80-97! And I I go upstairs it goes upto 140bpm. Is this a side effect of the chemo and will it settle back down over time. My chemo was etoposide and carboppatin

I have an ECG booked for next week at the doctors

thanks

  • Hi and thank you for your post

    Chemotherapy affects everyone differently.

Sometimes tachycardia can be a side effects  of chemotherapy.

Some chemotherapy drugs can cause heart problems or it could be a sign of infection.

I’m glad to see that you are booked in with your GP for an ECG next week but if your symptoms become worse or you have any difficulty in breathing, dizziness, temperature or chest pains please do not hesitate to call 111 or an ambulance.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Tina
